Turbo Odyssey  -- Resources

On this page I am providing contact information for the various vendors, repair shops and whatnot that I have used in connection with this project in one handy location.  I suppose most people would call this their "Links" page, but why be conventional?  Anyway, some of these resources aren't available on the Web.

For those of you using the Internet for the first time, all underlined text items are hyperlinks.

Turbo Odyssey Part 1 -- The Eternal Optimist

The source of all my problems:  eBay

Turbo Odyssey Part 2 -- Best Laid Plans

Really, the only link here is the source for great guys to do crazy things like drag the junk Corvair you bought on eBay three-quarters of the way across the country, look no farther than your local CORSA chapter.  In this case, it was Clark Hartzel of the Detroit Area Corvair Club.

Turbo Odyssey Part 3 -- Arrival

Turbo Odyssey Part 4 -- Taking It Apart

This was more blather, but I did mention Virtual Vairs, which is the e-mail list to which each of these pages was originally posted.  It's probably the fastest source for non-responsive and inaccurate answers to your Corvair-related questions, along with a lot of completely indispensable advice from those who have been there and done that.

Turbo Odyssey Part 5 -- Headlights and Other Trim

More yakkin'.  The original dealer who sold my Vair, Sacramento Motors, is now Desert Sun Motors, a Chevy dealer in Alamogordo, NM  -- no Corvairs still in inventory, last I checked.

And of course, life would be a slightly more frozen  place without PB Blaster, available at your friendly local auto parts store.

Turbo Odyssey Part 6 -- Windshield Trim and Engine Removal

Well, nothing too useful here, but any time I can point someone to GROUP Red, why not do it?  And let's not forget WEBELOS, great for pulling powertrains.

Turbo Odyssey Part 7 -- Quickie Update

Here's a plug for Michigan's other chapter, the West Michigan Corvair Club

Turbo Odyssey Part 8 -- Dashing through the, uh, Dash

Meguiars wax and Elmer's glue.

Turbo Odyssey Part 9 -- Last Details

Not even glue for a link.  Sigh.  Well, I did mention my engine dolly, purchased from Clark's Corvair Parts.  At this point the cash hemorrhage in the direction of Shelburne Falls had not even begun.  The range, quality and affordability of Clark's inventory is equaled only by their packaging and shipping efficiency.

Turbo Odyssey Part 10 -- Top Down Cruise

The pictures and palaver thing again.

Turbo Odyssey Part 11 -- Multiblasted

Here we have two guys who cannot be reached on the Web:  Jeff Trigg at Multiblast can be reached at (810) 639-6244.  Car Shine Auto Refinishing (Bob Reeve) can be reached at (517) 663-6676.

Turbo Odyssey Part 12 -- The Paint Man Cometh

Turbo Odyssey Part 13 -- More Pictures in the Paint

Turbo Odyssey Part 14 -- It's BAAACK!

Turbo Odyssey Part 15 -- Staples and Trim

Steve Van Os of Coatings Plus provided very reasonably-priced powdercoating services and does nice work.

Turbo Odyssey Part 16 -- More Endless Blather about Putting the Car Together bla bla bla bla bla

Additional mentions of Clarks, Steve Van Os, and Bob Reeve.  Also the introduction of another vendor, JetHot Coatings.

Turbo Odyssey Part 17 -- Trimmings

Here I show the results of JetHot's treatment on my exhaust system.

Turbo Odyssey Part 18 -- Bumpers

What Corvair is complete without parts from Corvair Underground?

Turbo Odyssey Part 19 -  The Shroud of DeWitt

Turbo Odyssey Part 20 - Further Progress on Engine Details

Homage is paid to Ken Hand, Michigan's own Vair mech and all around good guy.

Part 20 - Further Progress on Engine Details

Part 21 - GROUP Red

Part 22 - It's Alive!

Part 23 - Hits and Misses

Part 24 - Top This!

Stew's Auto Trim installs convertible tops at very reasonable prices, and does great work.  They're located in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and can be reached at  (517) 663-3990.

Part 25 - First Cruise

Part 26 - Wall to Wall Carpeting

B-Quiet Ultimate sound deadener was used to quiet the interior.

Part 27 - Heat Shield and Sand

If you're in the Lansing area you can contact Bannasch Welding at (517) 482-2916.  They're located on Lake Lansing Road just east of Northeast Street.

Part 28 - Happily Ever After

Mentions here include DeWitt Service Center, (517) 669-1165.  Ty does all the service on my daily drivers.  Rick Stansbury of Corvair Motorsports supplied KYB shocks and the hardware kit for installing them that I so thoughtfully misplaced.  Also, Ray Sedman of American Pi provides turbo performance parts including the Safeguard ignition system.  I will post to Virtual Vairs and feature the installation here on my web page when the parts arrive.  Finally, I am having my seatbelts restored by Ssnake Oyl Products.  There'll be an update about that as well.
