Norm Witte's 1971 Sea Ray SRV-180 Carpe Throttle

Instrument Panel Upgrade

As this photo shows, when I purchased Carpe Throttle, it came equipped with fairly basic instrumentation: a tach, a fuel gauge, and a speedometer. This is pretty typical outboard faire, and not bad, but the gauges didn't match, weren't illuminated, and I wanted a more complete panel.

My brother Rich surprised me by coming to Michigan for my 50th birthday, and we spent the day drilling holes in my boat.  We attached a swim platform, and drilled out the holes in the dash for the instruments.

Here is a picture the new outer instruments.  I found an old Sea Ray instrument panel and was able to get the original style wells. As you can see in this picture, I haven't yet replaced the tach and fuel gauge at this point.

Here's a look at the completed panel.  I moved the spotlight switch over to the right side of the dash near the knob for the light and added a bilge pump switch.  The power trim wiring that's dangling will get cleaned up later.

I added a fuse block and brought all new wiring up from the battery for accessories.

Here's a detail shot of the left side of the panel, showing the water pressure and volt gauges.

This is the back of this part of the cluster.

This is the center panel of the instrument cluster.

Here, the relocated spot light switch can be seen, along side the power trim controls Darrell added:

I also added a lighter jack in case I want to use my GPS or phone charger.
