Imperial Heart Surgery:  Freshening the Motor, and Some Other Stuff

November 21, 2013:  Head job.

Reassembly on the motor is moving right along.  Here, John Beery works on reinstalling the heads.  He says he still has the big bolt that was rattling around in the valley if I want him to reinstall it there.  I think I will pass.

This man looks like he is ready for a beer.

Getting ready to reinstall the oil pan:

Here is a close-up of the block stamping.  I don't know much about date coding, but I suspect this is telling me that the block was cast on April 5, 1968, on the night shift just before 10:00 p.m.

Another shot of the oil pan sitting on the engine.  I suspect the block is going to get a little more paint before this is bolted down.

Looks like work has started on digging out the leaking heater core.  My guess is that we will have the heater core rebuilt locally, since new ones for this car are quite expensive.

Clear coating bolts, the fuel pump and the oil pump housing:

Oil pan is bolted down, and the fuel pump is mounted:

Oil pump is installed:

The timing cover is on and the distributor is installed:

I stopped by this afternoon to drop off the powdercoated air cleaner assembly and a new fan clutch.  The motor is looking fantastic.

Next:    Dressing the motor.

Previous:  The block is back.
