Three House Pictures

November and December 2007

I'm going to break format a bit here for this next couple of pages, or we would end up with probably more pages of the next project than is really necessary.  Jeff Guill built a sweet computer counter and cabinet setup for us with a bit of help from me.  The challenge arose from the triangular shape of the computer room.  We decided to make two floating cabinets on either side with a countertop between them.  The shape of the counters kind of evolved as the project went.  We used up most of the leftover cherry plywood from the fireplace and stair railing on this project.

This picture shows the larger of the two cabinets before staining.  Both cabinets were stained black before being installed.  These "float" on top of the baseboard.

We built up the two-level counter over a series of evenings in the garage.  This is the lower countertop.  The plan was for this counter to end about four inches short of the wall in order to provide for a cable tray beneath the upper counter.  The four holes in the lower counter provide access to run wiring.  The board at the back is intended to act as a stiffener and to keep wires from falling down behind the counter.

Here we are getting ready to laminate the upper counter.  You can see the riser between levels which has been attached to the top.  This was also made of cherry plywood and stained black.
