Three House Pictures

August 25, 2007

Ok, it has been about a month since the last update.  There was a family vacation in the middle somewhere out at Lake Michigan, and progress toward the end on little details has slowed quite a bit.

In order to get a certificate of occupancy, we had to add banisters to the stairway, as the railing we have does not meet code.  Jeff Guill did a nice job with these, which will either be removed or upgraded later.

This house was resistant to the idea of refrigerated food by design.

I'll show you what I mean.  First, the fridge.  The builder left it to us to install the refrigerator, the freezer, the washer and the dryer.  In order to fit the fridge in place, I had to remove the freezer drawer and both doors from the fridge, the handles on the range and microwave,  and the hardware on the drawers in the island opposite the fridge.  It was that close.  Then, to plug in the fridge and connect the icemaker supply line, I could barely squeeze behind the fridge with everything stripped off.  This thing better never need service.  When we replace it, I am going to take it out of there with a sawzall.

Not to be outdone, we had even more fun with the upright freezer.  This fits into a niche in the pantry that we added on a change order.  Unfortunately, the niche was too small, so that the handle to the freezer stuck out and prevented closing of the pantry door.  As a result the niche had to be further deepened to accomodate the freezer.

Previous day.

Next day.
