Tim Colson

Baldwinsville, N.Y.

196? Rampside

DOS: Any given day

EDD: Any given day

The Story:  Tim Colson lives in Baldwinsville, N.Y. on the Erie Canal just north of Syracuse (close to the heavy snow belt). He has a '64 van almost ready for road, a '61 Lakewood that needs a lot but will get it soon , and the infamous frustrating Rampy pictured below. It's been up on the stands many times this summer due to a flukey Powerglide transmission.

Tim has been working on Vairs ever since 1964 when he bought his first new one, and has "gone through a bunch of them since." Anytime he jacks one up he tries to do all of the work the same day. The picture of two trucks in the air was taken last week, when he took the engine out of the Rampy, put it on the bench, then took the engine out of the van and put it in the Rampy. He started at about 8:00 a.m., and drove out for a road test around 5:30 p.m. The week before, he took the motor out and changed the torque converter; the week before that he took out the drivetrain to change the transmission. "Talk about wanting to give up but loving a vehicle."

No kidding. I'm in awe.
