Part 3:  The GM Heritage Center

General Motors has a car collection that it does not often share with the public.  The GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights showcases nearly 200 cars, a number of which are one-of-a-kind prototypes or show cars, in a special facility that is not open to the public.  It was, however, open to convention attendees on Wednesday.

Here are a few broad shots of the place:

The display along one wall was dedicated to trucks, including this very butch mid-sixties three quarter ton pickup:

Check out this row of Cadillac grilles:

An incredible Cadillac convertible:

The 1953 Cadillac LeMans show car was on display.  It was truly gorgeous.  You can tell that the public isn't regularly invited in this facility because you could walk right up to the cars.

Here's a shot of the LeMans' dash board:

This Buick woody was very cool:

This '69 Chevy Kingswood Estate was tucked away in a corner.  It featured fiber optic hood lights, disappearing headlights, air, power windows and a big block.  How cool.

The Astro I show car was a bit taller than my knee.  This car was powered by a Corvair 140 hp motor.

Of course, there were plenty of Vettes on hand:

This '66 Impala SS convertible sported a four speed and air conditioning.

This close up shot shows the impeccable detail on a '59 Buick:

It was really something for GM to open this facility to us.
