Three 1965 Corvair Fisher Body Build Tags
July 6, 2004
In 1985 I got my first Corvair, a '65 Corsa coupe. When I got out of school a few years later, I decided that I wanted to re-body that car and bought a '66 Monza from South Carolina. Before I could get very far on that project, another '65 Corsa came along that was so solid that I had to buy it. Eventually the first Corsa and the Monza were sold to my cousin, but the second Corsa has been with me ever since.
About a year and a half ago I decided that I wanted to have a convertible Corvair, and I bought a '65 Monza convertible. This year I decided that I wanted to get a different project convertible, which I did, purchasing a '65 Corsa turbo convertible from Montana. So for the first time in many years, I again had three Vairs, albeit for a short time. The Monza is already sold and has gone to its new home.
Since joining Virtual Vairs, I have become more interested in the information available regarding vehicle body tags. In an effort to add my meager data to the pot, I have photographed the Fisher Body build tags on my three current Corvairs and those photos appear below, along with build information I know so far about the options with which these vehicles were equipped.
I apologize for the file size of the photos on this page, but I wanted to retain as much of the detail as possible; as you can see these are not the easiest to read. Unfortunately, I appear to have not photographed the last line of the Monza's plate (blocked by the wiring harness), and the car is now gone. Information on this page was complied in part with the help of information provided by Rad Davis, Bill Hubbell and David Trull.

If you can add any information to augment or correct what I have here, I would be glad to update this page. I would also be glad to start an Internet list of '65 option codes based upon findings out there in Corvairland.
